Christmas Market Ypres
In 2006, at the request of the local traders, the ice rink on the Grote Markt was extended to a genuine Christmas Market for the first time. Following the successful first editions the Christmas Market has become a reliable value on the Ypres end of year calendar. Owing to this success, between 5 December and 3 January, the 36 chalets on the Grote Markt will now be extended to 50 at the week-ends in order to ensure visitors are able to enjoy our typical Christmas Market products. The organisers are busy planning activities to offer the public an enjoyable visit.
Furthermore, all the Christmas illuminations in all the Ypres shopping streets will undergo a major facelift. The street illuminations will all be renewed and replaced with modern Christmas motives. The skate rental area will also be refurbished. The enchanting atmosphere encompassing the Christmas Market and the ice rink will thus be guaranteed.
Everyone is most welcome to attend the festive opening on Friday evening 4 December on the Grote Markt.
